MY FIRST NAME - FAY
I’ve wondered why my Mother named me FAY. As the years passed I’ve wished I'd received a different name. Many times through the years I've received mail with the designation, Miss Fay Parker, Ms. Fay Parker, Mrs. Fay Parker, so I’m obviously considered by many to be of the feminine gender. While in the military one of the unprincipled, guys in my outfit ridiculed me by referring to the following lines from the child song, Polly Wolly Doodle. Many of you will know it. It goes, “Fare thee well, fare thee well, Fare thee well my FAIRY FAY. One dictionary definition of FAIRY is “slang for a homosexual Man.” Furthermore, we all know how the word GAY has been corrupted. It was always defined as “merry and bright,” whereas it now also means “homosexual.”
Lately however, I now look at my name in a more positive light due to something Lori recently told me. She states that FAY in Spanish means FAITH. It’s spelled fe but sounds the same as we say my name. Thank you Lori for this enlightening bit of information.
Have you ever wondered what our names were in our Pre-mortal life ?

OLD GLORY
The regular size flags most people have are 3 x 5 ft. The ones I fly are 5 X 8.
The sales lady said those made of polyester fabric stand the strong winds better so that's what I got. If the winds increase beyond 30 MPH I take it down so it doesn't get beat up and damaged. It was quite a task to get it installed. Dave Lindstrom and some other neighbors helped me get it up and set straight.
I took the picture of the flag flying with my digital camera. You can see the top of the house.

Elsinore Jr. High Operetta
FAY as “Rastus” in 8th Grade Jr. High Operetta - 1939 - Age 14 - -
During one of our Chorus Classes that were part of the school curriculum, our Teacher, Lorraine Bowman selected several students to sing a vocal number. I was one of them. I had no clue what it was about, but the next day the names of those who were chosen for lead parts were posted on the bulletin board and I was chosen to take the part of the black-faced Rastus. I have always had a good ear for music which is one reason learning to play the harmonica came easy to me. However because of my lack of confidence it wasn’t easy for me to have to sing before students and parents during the performances. The main vocal I sang with a negro dialect went: “Wise ole Noah, built hisself a boat; evrbody snickered, ‘case it wouldn’t float; ole Noah tell ‘em, you wait’n see; but they kept on rebbelin (reveling) chipper as could be.” The backup chorus would then repeat “revelin’ revelin’ chipper as could be.” NOTE: Of all the Teachers I’ve ever had, Lorraine Bowman was my favorite. One thing I admired her for, was the way she handled some of the smart aleck boys in the class. She just booted them out !

J. E. Parker Cows & Horses
I
I plan to post pictures of two Jersey milk cows and one of my Dads horses grazing out in the field West of our home. You can see our cement silo and the corrals in the distance. There are three main breeds of milk cows I'm familiar with - - the Jerseys we had that are the smallest and give the richest milk. The next are Gurnseys that are reddish brown with some white - - then the Holsteins, the largest breed that are black and white. Their milk isn't as rich but they give a lot more if it. My pioneer mother and I did nearly all the milking until I went in Military service. We milked from 15 to 20 head morning and night, 365 days of the year through "rain, snow, wind and gloom of night," as the saying goes. My brother Lynn said he started milking at about age 6, so I probably did as well. The Jersey Bulls tended to be more irritable and temperamental than the larger breeds. I've told some of you the incident when one of our mean bulls, named Alligator chased my Sister, Iris age about 13 when we'd gone to the pasture to bring them home for the evening milking. I was only 6. It was a terrifying experience. It was likely the hand of providence that saved her. Remind me some time if you haven't heard the full story. Alligator is a ferocious name for a Bull isn't it, but it fits this mean one. My Dad's Jerseys were all registered pure breds and as such had to be given a name. His dairy cows were some of the best in the State of Utah and were shown in both County and State Fairs.
You'll notice in the photo of one of the cows, it appears on the bottom right of the picture there's a new born calf. NOTE: I decided to add the picture of the Gurnsey cows. It appears they were at an auction or County Fair. We didn't own them.

Lindsay Lake Creek Home Burns.

In October 1936, Doris who was 11 years old at the time, was upstairs playing in their Lakecreek home when it was struck by a lightning bolt followed by a ball of fire that came down the light cord handing in the room. The thunder was so loud she jumped in bed and covered up her head. When her initial fright subsided she went down stairs to get her coloring book, and could hear the crackle of fire and saw a cloud of smoke rolling over the fields. Allen and Wrex who were hauling hay in a nearby field saw the smoke and rushed the team and wagon so fast toward the house one of the wheels came off, but they just kept coming. The Heber fire truck soon arrived but there was no fire hydrant to fill the truck's water tank so the house burned to the ground, however the crew was able to save things on the main floor.

Pa's old Chev truck.
Ford Maverick about 1971
We had this one after coming to Orem. This is another car I didn't get a photo of so I found a similar one on the Internet. This looks better than the one I had. This one was a "lemon" - - an oil burner. It burned so much oil it fouled the spark plugs so I'd take them out periodically and clean the carbon and crap off them.
