OLD GLORY

I have always felt a sense of pride and respect for our flag and have been angered by those who desecrate it in any way or burn it. I have written letters to the Editor of the Daily Herald expressing my feelings about those who disrespect it. I decided to get a tall flag pole on which I could fly a larger flag so in June, 1998 I got one at Colonial Flag located at 9390 S. 300 W. in Sandy, Utah. It is a beautiful, burnished, aluminum pole 30 feet high that will never rust.
The regular size flags most people have are 3 x 5 ft. The ones I fly are 5 X 8.

The sales lady said those made of polyester fabric stand the strong winds better so that's what I got. If the winds increase beyond 30 MPH I take it down so it doesn't get beat up and damaged. It was quite a task to get it installed. Dave Lindstrom and some other neighbors helped me get it up and set straight.
I took the picture of the flag flying with my digital camera. You can see the top of the house.

Elsinore Jr. High Operetta

Lorraine Bowman, Chorus Teacher
Kent Lott, Fay & Hal Parker, 2nd Cousin
The Operetta Cast

FAY as “Rastus” in 8th Grade Jr. High Operetta - 1939 - Age 14 - -
During one of our Chorus Classes that were part of the school curriculum, our Teacher, Lorraine Bowman selected several students to sing a vocal number. I was one of them. I had no clue what it was about, but the next day the names of those who were chosen for lead parts were posted on the bulletin board and I was chosen to take the part of the black-faced Rastus. I have always had a good ear for music which is one reason learning to play the harmonica came easy to me. However because of my lack of confidence it wasn’t easy for me to have to sing before students and parents during the performances. The main vocal I sang with a negro dialect went: “Wise ole Noah, built hisself a boat; evrbody snickered, ‘case it wouldn’t float; ole Noah tell ‘em, you wait’n see; but they kept on rebbelin (reveling) chipper as could be.” The backup chorus would then repeat “revelin’ revelin’ chipper as could be.” NOTE: Of all the Teachers I’ve ever had, Lorraine Bowman was my favorite. One thing I admired her for, was the way she handled some of the smart aleck boys in the class. She just booted them out !
